ABOUT SUNDARBANS:
The Sunderbans – beautiful forest of Bengal – is the largest Mangrove ecosystem in the world. There’s saying that INDIAN AMAZON. Only way of exploring the area is by cruising through innumerable rivers, rivulets and creeks in the motorised boat or launch. This is a world nature heritage site, encompassing hundred and eight islands with the largest tiger population in the world. To board a launch or a boat one has to undertake a road journey of about a hundred kilometres of Kolkata. An area of 2585sq. Km declared as the Sunderbans Tiger Reserve. The tours are conducted in this zone, a part of which is “Sajnekhali Wildlife Sanctuary”. There are a few islands where watchtowers (W.T.) are present and we tiptoe towards them for animal sighting.

Before you plan to visit Sundarbans,
You must be clear of one thing; - Sundarbans is not just one sanctuary or reserve forest. It is not forest, it is forestation, a wilderness, with 48 uninhabited and 54 inhabited islands and rivers and channels circulating around them. And this wilderness is known for the habitation of the most ferocious, dangerous, cunning and private animal, The Royal Bengal Tiger, no hobnobbing accepted. Further, all effort is on to keep this area habitable for the natural habitats. So, there is no provision of safari through the jungle. You can go around the forest islands in a motor boat and if you are lucky enough, you may see some wild life. Where ever forest islands are close to human inhabited islands, forest islands are surrounded with strong fencing, for the safety of human population.
So, when you visit Sundarbans, you will visit the largest “Delta” and the largest mangrove forest of the world, a terrain which you are unlikely to see anywhere else, you are going to have endless cruise from one river to the other, you will take morning walk through pure unpolluted village life full of varieties of birds typical to that place, and definitely, you will come across some wild life.
